Risk Reducing Strategies for Schools: Post-COVID-19
Event Description

These speakers are going to share “lessons learning” from how we are dealing with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in our academic institutions. The presentation will go over a short background on the virus and its airborne nature and then quickly delve into architectural and engineering solutions to mitigate its transmission.

This session will give participants a whole toolbox of techniques and response measures that can be immediately applied in K-12 and higher education environments, but also beyond to offices, gathering events and more.

Finally, our industry leading presenters will lay out the future of ventilation and design for buildings in the post-COVID 19 world and how standards and codes will begin to reflect this new reality. Join us for this exciting session which will lay out how the AEC community is building sustainability, resilience and a brighter future in the tri-state area and across the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Learning objectives

  1. Participants will be able to understand the context related to the COVID-19 outbreak and some historic perspectives.
  2. Participants will be able to understand what was done to reopen K-12 and Higher Education facilities in the latter half of 2020.
  3. Participants will have an understanding of available tools and standards (such as ASHRAE 62.1 or AIA Reopening Guidance) that can be used to address airborne disease spread in educational environments.
  4. Participants will be given some insights into what can be expected in the coming months as to how facilities will need to be continually modified to address epidemiological issues in the future.
