WMGC Green Night:
Living Building Challenge - Influencing the Future of Building

Wednesday February 21st - 5-7 pm

Platform Sports Bar Meeting Room

Join WMGC at Platform Sports Bar from 5-7pm on Wednesday February 21st to learn about the fundamentals of the Living Building Challenge and the specifics of the Materials Petal, which is intended to "help create a materials economy that is non-toxic, ecologically restorative, transparent, and socially equitable."

Healthy Building Materials Specialist, Irene Winkelbauer, will describe what it means to have full ingredient disclosure in building materials and how this effort aims to eliminate hazardous ingredients from the built environment.

The founder of Coldham & Hartman Architects, Bruce Coldham, will share insights from the Bechtel Environmental Classroom at Smith College, describing challenges and lessons learned while striving to achieve the Living Building Challenge standard in the Pioneer Valley.

    • Irene Winkelbauer has been involved as a founding member and board member of WMGC since 2011. She has a Masters Certificate in Sustainable Design from the Boston Architectural College and is presently working as a Healthy Building Materials Specialist for Integrated Eco Strategy.

      Bruce Coldham, the founding Principal of C&H Architects, retired in 2015 with over 35 years of experience in the practice of architecture in the US and Australia. He remains active within the profession and is pursuing his love of travel and drawing. Throughout his career, his dedication to ecologically sustainable design and cohousing were well known. Bruce has considerable experience as a designer and manager of both large and small scale, public and private sector architectural projects. He has experience in environmental design research, having developed a particular expertise in energy-efficient / bio-climatic design, and ecologically benign construction and land-use practices.

    • Green Night is always 5-7pm at Platform Sports Bar in Northampton. The Platform Sports Bar is located in the historic Union Station in Northampton, MA at 125A Pleasant Street. The bar offers a full menu and an extensive list of drinks. Parking adjacent to the bar is free. Join us in the Blue Goose Meeting Room to grab a drink, chat with others, and learn more about what is happening in the Valley around sustainability.
