  • 12 Oct 2016
Event Description

You are invited to join the Western Mass Green Consortium at the upcoming Green Night October 12, 2016 5PM - 8PM.

Construction & Demolition Sustainable Waste Practices

Join RecyclingWorks in Massachusetts, EcoBuilding Bargains, and the Western Mass Green Consortium for a conversation about increasing reuse and recycling of construction and demolition (C&D) materials. RecyclingWorks is developing guidance on how to divert C&D materials from landfills. We would like to hear from building professionals and others involved in the construction industry about your experience with reuse and recycling of these materials. In addition, representatives from EcoBuilding Bargains will present on how homeowners and contractors can incorporate reuse into remodel and construction projects.

Emily Fabel, Green Business Building Lead, Center for EcoTechnology

Emily Fabel helps businesses and institutions reduce waste as Green Business Program Lead for the Center for EcoTechnology. She administers two waste reduction programs funded by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection: THE GREEN TEAM (for schools) and RecyclingWorks in MA (for businesses and institutions). Emily has a Masters of Architecture from the University of Minnesota and entered the waste management field through hauling trash, food waste, and recyclables by bicycle for Pedal People Cooperative in Northampton, MA.

Topics for discussion include:

-Reuse: Connecting with salvage outlets to reuse materials.

-Source Separation: What materials make sense to separate on-site and at what scale of project
C&D Processing: Best practices for capturing high-value materials at comingled facilities

Please attend to learn about and share your experience with these or other issues related to diverting construction and demolition materials from disposal.

About Recycling Works: RecyclingWorks in MA is a free recycling assistance program, funded by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and administered by the Center for EcoTechnology, that helps businesses and institutions maximize recycling, reuse, and composting opportunities. RecyclingWorks resources include a searchable database of haulers and processors of recyclable materials, information on recycling different materials, and free technical assistance to help businesses improve their waste diversion programs.
