Event Description

A number of Minnesota cities have established sustainable building policies, also known as green building policies or standards, in order to meet sustainability and climate goals. In exchange for financial or land use incentives, these city policies establish minimum sustainability criteria for energy, water, materials, etc. that go beyond existing state code for new construction or significantly renovated developments. Notable cities such as Saint Paul and Saint Louis Park have long established policies and other cities are considering them.

Hennepin County is seeking to help ease the implementation of sustainability policies across cities. To support this, the Center for Energy and Environment is leading a discussion to find opportunities for sustainable building policy implementation standardization among cities as well as identify common resource needs.

Developers, architects, and buildings are invited to share perspectives on how policies are currently being implemented and what opportunities there are to make it better. Before the event, participants are encouraged to complete this short survey by April 30th to inform the conversation.
