Pro Tour: New Development Addressing Chronic Disparities in Brooklyn, December 12, New York, NY
Event Description

You're invited to join NESEA for a Tour of a resilient new development, designed to address chronic social, economic, and health disparities in a historically underserved area of Brooklyn, NYC. This 28-acre site will replace a decommissioned state psychiatric hospital with residential buildings, a public school, health clinic, and urban farm program. The master-planned development was designed around the principle of a 15-minute neighborhood. These buildings and their surroundings were also designed for long-term environmental resilience from rising sea levels, storm events, and other effects of climate change. The buildings feature on-site renewable energy through the use of photovoltaics, geothermal, and wastewater energy recovery systems.

The event will begin with an opening presentation, with details including the design strategies, materials selection, performance goals, and site considerations of the project. Attendees will then break into small groups to tour the facility while hearing more from the interdisciplinary team of experts who made the building possible. After the tour, participants will regroup for a reception and Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to chat with the day’s speakers and each other. If you're interested in community focused architecture, walkable cities, and designing with resident health in mind.
