Pittsburgh Green Building Tour: Heinz History Center,
Event Description

Green Building Alliance is going to explore the very first Smithsonian Property in the United States to become LEED certified: Pittsburgh’s very own Heinz History Center!  Enjoy a walk through the museum while learning about the project’s history, the building’s green features, and insights into sustainable building operations.
This tour is part of a special series! To commemorate GBA’s 30th anniversary in 2023, GBA is going to revisit some of the green buildings that influenced the region’s path to sustainable leadership. These early adopters were among the first of their kind (the FIRST of their building type to achieve certain green building certifications!) and not only caused positive ripple effects throughout Western Pennsylvania but also within their own industries.

Event participants will:

  • Hear about why the green building was pursued during the initial project planning
  • Learn about Heinz History Center’s current building operations
  • Gain insight into how the project influenced other cultural institutions
  • Understand how involvement in the Pittsburgh 2030 District is helping to continue its commitment to sustainability, especially related to energy and water use
