Advancing Energy Justice: Tools for Justice40 and Equitable Deep Decarbonization
Event Description

Federal and state-level policy discussions are increasingly focused on achieving an equitable clean energy transition. The Biden-Harris administration's Justice40 Initiative aims to deliver at least 40 percent of benefits from federal investments in clean energy to historically overburdened and underserved communities. Implementing these policies requires an interdisciplinary focus and connection across perspectives, sectors, and research silos. It also requires new data sources, methodologies, and frameworks.

This two-day conference will bring together federal agency staff working to implement Justice40 with researchers to discuss how academic research can be more responsive to communities’ needs. Speakers and attendees will work to identify implementation challenges and opportunities for Justice40 and other energy justice initiatives. The goal is to enable researchers to develop methods, interdisciplinary connections, and frameworks that can help make deep decarbonization efforts more consistent with the tenets of energy justice.

This conference is organized by the Institute for Policy Integrity at New York University School of Law and the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Economic Impact and Diversity, along with a committee of experts in the field. The event is supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
