Event Description

Join Maria Wheeler-Dubas as she guides GBA’s Women+ In Green on an ecological hike of Western Pennsylvania through Pittsburgh’s North Park.  Learn about some of the native plants and trees of our region, how they fit into the broader ecology of Western Pennsylvania (including relationships with other species) and explore how some of these plants may have been used traditionally by settlers and Indigenous peoples of the region.

Maria Wheeler-Dubas has found inspiration in the wild world since she was a six-year-old science princess. Her personal motivator is to ensure everyone has access to the wonders of nature.  She has a PhD in biology from Duquesne University and she is the Science Education Outreach Manager at Phipps Conservatory.  In her spare time, she goes on adventures with her husband and two pups, and she creates nature and conservation programming for her local library.
