Event Description

OTA CONSTRUCTION CORPORATE OFFICES

Sota Construction’s corporate offices is Western PA’s first LEED Platinum NC (New Construction), and holds two AIA Pittsburgh Design Awards for sustainability and design excellence.  The building combines state-of-the-art structural, mechanical, and electrical systems with a super-efficient thermal envelope using natural building materials (including straw bale and interior walls using clay straw infill) in a unique way to provide a thermal/hygric mass to control humidity in the building.  The building also incorporates a biophillic space to provide a supplemental heat source during the winter months as well as exterior exhaust/fresh air intake for the indoor environment.

EXPERIENCE

Green Building Alliance and Phil Ford, VP of Sota Construction will provide background and a guided tour of the building.  You’ll receive an inside look at Sota’s Sustainable Green Building Approach and learn about their most innovative and cutting-edge sustainable projects.  Phil will provide insight into why the company prioritizes green building, and how green business practices have impacted the bottom line.

Light appetizers and refreshments are included with your ticket price.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Gain insight into the motivations and applications behind one of our country’s greenest buildings.
  2. Understand how the project team combined envelope techniques, energy performance (EAc1, LEED NC v2.2), efficient systems, and on-site renewable energy (EAc2, LEED NC v2.2) to move towards their goal of net-zero energy use.
  3. Explore habitat-restoring features of the site, including the native and adaptive plants, and learn about the strategies used to build on this previously-developed site (SSc5.1-5.2, LEED NC v2.2).
  4. Learn how the project team addressed the comfort and health of occupants by combining things like natural daylight (EQc8.1, LEED NC v2.2) and responsible products (EQc4.1 – 4.4, LEED NC v2.2).
