Sustainable and Contemporary Locker Solutions
Event Description

In this one-hour course, the design professional will learn about various materials that lockers are composed of as well as options to consider when designing a locker configuration, including the assorted features that lockers offer. The participant will explore the specific components of the HDPE lockers and analyze various industry applications in order to understand how HDPE lockers are able to offer clean, durable, flexible design options that meet a variety of needs. GreenCE will discuss how HDPE physical attributes, composition, and sustainability contributes to the design and construction of any sustainable project and ultimately have a positive effect on both people and property. In closing, the role of responsible manufacturing in a product’s life cycle assessment as well as which LEED v4 credits can apply to building projects will be examined to make participants more aware of how design choices do have an impact on occupants and their environment.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Compare and contrast different types of lockers in terms of their material composition, maintenance, life span, and sustainable benefits to both occupants and the environment
  2. Define the characteristics of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) lockers as well as identify a variety of design options and applications in which HDPE lockers may be used to make them a good solution for diverse industries that require lockers that are easy to maintain, provide resistance to mold/mildew, and accommodate specific industry needs
  3. Explore several ways the HDPE materials found in lockers offer LEED credit through topics that include noise reduction, construction waste diversion, and low emitting materials that also provide healthier solutions for people
  4. Explain how responsible manufacturing is a critical part of any product’s life cycle assessment and give several examples of how these standards may be applied to HDPE locker units to increase environmental improvements over traditional manufacturing processes and to promote a cleaner environment in which to live
