Inside Elco Yards: A LEED Gold Campus Tour, September 22, Redwood City, California
Event Description

Tour LEED Gold-certified Elco Yards and explore innovative systems, decarbonization strategies, and high-performance campus design.

Join USGBC California for an exclusive tour of Elco Yards, IQHQ's landmark mixed-use development spanning six city blocks in downtown Redwood City. This 530,000-square-foot campus brings together laboratory and office space, retail, public plazas, and community amenities to create a vibrant, walkable destination.

During the tour, attendees will explore how the project team balanced sustainability, design excellence, and long-term performance to achieve LEED Gold certification across all four buildings. Learn how innovative building systems, including heat-recovery chillers and central heat-pump hot water systems, support the project's energy and decarbonization goals.

The tour will also highlight the collaborative design process, including the role of the California Energy Design Assistance (CEDA) Program in evaluating energy-saving opportunities through technical analysis and energy modeling.

This is a unique opportunity for developers, architects, engineers, building owners, and sustainability professionals to experience a high-performance campus firsthand and gain insights into the strategies driving the next generation of sustainable development.

Learning objectives:

  • Examine the integrated design strategies that contributed to LEED Gold certification at a high-performance mixed-use development.
  • Analyze the role of advanced building systems in improving energy performance and supporting building decarbonization.
  • Evaluate how energy modeling and technical analysis inform high-performance building design.
  • Assess how thoughtful site planning and public spaces contribute to the long-term success of sustainable mixed-use developments.
