Event Description

In Green Building Alliance's continuing effort to support healthy & high performance buildings, Green Building Alliance are happy to bring you Passive House Tradesperson Training!  Green Building Alliance has been working with its partners (Passive House Western PA, West Penn Power Sustainable Energy Fund, and more) to build local capacity in Passive House design techniques for the past several years. Green Building Alliance has successfully trained architects, engineers and consultants in designing Passive House structures, and we are now delighted to partner with Emu Systems (for content), CCI (for location), and Passive House Western PA to provide hands-on training on how to build these super-efficient buildings.  Anyone who is interested in learning about how to implement some of the most high performance building techniques in the world – please come!  This training is intended for all: small business owners, site managers, project managers, crew leaders – even architects & engineers who focus more on the implementation side than the design side.

This 4 day training consists of two 2-day Modules and it is sequential: the training builds on previous days.  As such, before taking Module 2, you would need to take Module 1 to be able to get the full benefit of the training.

Day 1 [Module 1]
Unit 1: Passive House Basics
Unit 2: Passive House Economics in North America
Unit 3: Thermal Insulation
Recap + Review of Sample Questions for Exam
Workshop: Insulation

Day 2 [Module 1]
Unit 4: Thermal Bridges
Unit 5: Windows + Transparent Components
Unit 6: Existing Buildings – Envelope

To be (an internationally recognized) Passive House Tradesperson (and be listed in the PHI database) you will need to take the exam.  Exam dates are set by the Passive House Institute – the first time we are planning to offer the exam in Pittsburgh will be in the fall of 2018.  (The other dates PHI has set can be found here, but the fall exam is the only one that is currently planned on being offered in Pittsburgh.)
