Event Description

In 2008, California became the first state in the nation to include mandatory green building requirements in its building code. This groundbreaking step meant that every structure built in the state – whether a home, school, commercial building or other structure – would have to meet guidelines for energy and water efficiency, low emission flooring and building materials and more. These requirements have also extended to building renovation.

Over the ensuing decade, CALGreen has continued to raise the bar in keeping with California’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting building health. The latest updates to the code will become mandatory in January 2020.

California’s Energy Code, which CALGreen defers to in regard to building efficiency standards, is the strictest code of its kind in the nation. Years ago, it was announced that when the current revisions became mandatory in January 2020, all new residential construction will be required to meet Zero Net Energy requirements. The 2019 updates address this efficiency goal.

Anyone working in the building sector can benefit from knowing what’s coming as soon as possible, whether to ensure that projects in the pipeline take new changes into account, to prepare for future plan review or inspections, or to ensure that current renovations and upgrades take the latest standards for building efficiency and health into account.

Since the first publication of CALGreen, Green Technology has organized training related to code requirements, reaching thousands of building professionals at locations throughout the state.

Green Technology is now offering two new seminars that will address current changes. They will also provide opportunities for attendees to gain insight into current priorities for buildings in California and where code may be headed in the future and to ask questions regarding common challenges in code compliance.

The seminars can be attended individually, or together. See schedule below.
