Biomimicry means using nature to mimic things in our everyday life. By mimicking nature in how products and buildings are designed, we can make smarter, more cost effective decisions that we already know are sustainable. Architect and sustainable building advisor Janus Welton puts it as, “The core idea of biomimicry is that nature has already solved our sustainability problems.” Some new innovations that have come from biomimicry are windows with patterned UV coating that is invisible to the human eye, but that birds can see the reflection and don't fly into windows. Also, companies are trying to use mushrooms to make insulators as opposed to using plastics and dangerous chemicals.
