The first course (12 pm) provides useful knowledge that can be used to assure a masonry project's surfaces, exterior or interior, has been properly treated during the final wash-down stage of the project. Learn detail safety and training requirements to properly use masonry cleaners in the field, from a product chemical standpoint, as well as best-labor practices.­

  • Evaluate different cleaning methods commonly used to remove mortar smears from new construction.
  • Learn how to identify and safely remove reaction-based stains without damaging the substrate of surrounding surfaces.
  • How improper cleaning methods, as well as not employing best practice methods during construction can alter the finished look of a new construction project.
  • Ideas on how to treat and collect water used during the wash-down process to be environmentally responsible.

The next course (1 pm) will explore how to effectively design masonry walls using legacy stone products. Attendees will learn the proper design techniques which focus on the prevention of moisture and crack control issues. Additionally, the discussion will emphasize the planning and designing of sound masonry walls using proper architectural components based on industry guidelines and specifications.­

  • Gain a better understanding of Indiana Limestone through its history; its inherent performance characteristics have made this the product of choice.
  • Discuss the performance criteria and overall sustainable design options of Architectural Stone Masonry
  • Understand the different manufacturing methods of stone masonry products to offer an economical and aesthetically pleasing weather-resistant exterior stone cladding.­
  • Discuss how stone masonry products offer a fire resistant, and safe component to the exterior envelope.­­
