Free Webinar: Intermediate Lighting – Sustainable Lighting, February 21
Event Description

Sustainable design is a fundamental part of our lighting industry. As part of the design process, they aim to reduce the usage of energy and to reduce the wasteful impact on the environment we live in. A sustainable design should strive to optimize the economic, environmental, and social benefits as much as possible.

Artificial lighting can account for up to 15% of a building's annual electricity use. The goal for current sustainable lighting technology is to minimize the need for artificial lighting and decrease energy usage in buildings. Innovation that connects light and people and that delivers light beyond illumination is the right path to sustainability.

The objective of this course is that at the conclusion, participants will be able to:

  • Describe a range of approaches for incorporating sustainability into lighting choices
  • List various standards and certifications for green building
  • Evaluate how to determine whether a practice or product is sustainable
  • Define and apply sustainability principles in lighting practices and personal and professional values
  • Analyze and explain local, national, and global sustainability efforts with a multidisciplinary approach
