The People's Climate March. Ok, so what's next?

It was so exciting to see 300,000+ people attend the People's Climate March in New York City on September 21st.  Even though I could not attend, I watched the news excitedly and committed to joining in all of the activities that were sure to follow.  At first, I worried that we aren't seeing enough concrete results soon enough.  But thinking about it and searching for other opinions, I feel a little better.  Because I believe that things are changing in so many smaller ways that can be harder to perceive.  The people who attended this event were energized, for one thing.  They aren't going to lose that energy and "feeling of not being alone" as an environmentalist or just a concerned citizen any time soon.  Johannes Urpelainen posted to the Energy Collective that this seemingly indirect benefit must not be counted out.  Elizabeth Shogren of the Natoinal Geographic adds that this "people power" is directly influencing both politicians and some pretty lagre companies to enact more sustainable policies that can be more readiyl measured.  Elizabeth believes the consumer and voter power exihibted at this event were highly motivatiing.  It's all about pressure - and continuing the momentum.

I am excited to be signed up for an upcoming Rainforest Action Network Commnity Leadership event here in Boston in the next weeks.  I am happy to know that hundreds of thousands of people care about the environment, and I am ready to also learn how to do my part (aside from what I can do to create and polish and support Rate It Green of course).  It's great to know many of us are concerned and committed - now I want to make sure to do my part and have an impact.  I hope to see more news and excitement surrounding this event, the UN Climate Summit, and the growing sustainability movement, generally.  I believe that information and collaboration are key to all of us connecting and helping others as well as the environment.
