Tour of Southeast Community Center - June 20
Event Description

This tour will complement the Water Conservation Showcase educational session titled “Drought to Deluge and provide an opportunity to see the landscaped bioswales of the new Southeast Community Center and learn about the center’s role as a hub to promote the health, well-being, cultural, educational, and financial empowerment of San Francisco’s Bayview Hunter’s Points residents.

The center is a state of the art, 40,000 square foot, three story, gold LEED building with two acres of open space and over 30 pieces of art by local Bayview artists. The original center started in 1979 to help offset the effects of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission’s wastewater treatment plant on surrounding communities. The new center opened in October 2023, and its design and programming reflect extensive input from the local neighborhood.

The objective of this course is that at the conclusion, participants will be able to:

  • List ways that landscaped bioswales help manage stormwater run-off
  • Apply best practices and lessons-learned from this urban rain garden and public park to other projects
  • Recognize ways that public space-making supports local communities
  • Appreciate

There are morning and afternoon tours available on this day:

10am - 11am
12pm - 1pm

Tours are also available on June 20, also at 10 am and 12 pm.
