Rural resiliency Forum
Event Description

The most recent extreme weather event — Hurricane Michael — has tallied deaths and destruction in Virginia and even more massive consequences in our neighboring states. The Rural Resiliency Forum is your opportunity to join a growing conversation among concerned rural citizens in the Commonwealth, along with local and state government, emergency management, and university representatives, about what resources and programs are needed to help strengthen our rural communities.

Resiliency addresses the need to:
bounce back from extreme events, like hurricanes and flooding,
deal better with chronic stressors, such as the need for economic diversification, and
recognize that adapting to long-range climate change means making some changes, like using agricultural practices that support soil health and preserving forests to help reduce the impacts of too much carbon.
This forum will focus on the interconnection of four broad resiliency areas:

Resilient Agriculture and Forestry
The Role of Green and Blue Infrastructure
Hazard Mitigation and Disaster Preparedness
Incorporating a Resiliency Approach to Planning
