Event Description
Do you have a burning question you’ve always wanted to ask a landscape design or maintenance expert?
Do you have a question about a specific plant or landscape challenge where nothing seems to work no matter what you do? Styled after NPR’s long-running and popular “Car Talk” program and continued from the 2020, 2021 and 2022 Water Conservation Showcases, this session is designed to address landscape, garden and plant questions from attendees. We may also include a guest panelist, a garden-based puzzler and a “stump the chumps”. If you are unfamiliar with "Car Talk”, go here.
The regular Plant Talk panelists are Sarah Sutton and Cielo Sichi. Ms. Sutton is principle Landscape Architect at EcosDesign Studio, a ReScape Qualified Rater and Author of "The New American Front Yard: Kiss Your Grass Goodbye." Cielo Sichi is principal Landscape Architect at Landfour Landscape Architecture, lead instructor for ReScape and Chair of the Horticulture Department at American River College.
Participants are encouraged to submit photographs, diagrams and other descriptive information related to your inquiry. Send plant and landscape questions and visuals to Ryan Stroupe at ryan.stroupe@pge.com . All past Plant Talk sessions are available on demand here.
Attend this session if you have questions about your landscape or plantings or want to hear answers to others' questions that our expert panelists will provide. Session will also include best practices for managing landscapes during drought conditions.
The objective of this course is that at the conclusion, participants will be able to:
- First round of plant and landscape questions
- Review of past puzzler
- Second round of plant and landscape questions
- Conservation corner: landscape water savings during a drought
- Introduction of new puzzler
- Third round of plant and landscape questions
- Wrap up
Sarah Carolyn Sutton, Landscape Architect, LEED AP, RQP and Rater, brings over 35 years’ experience with regenerative landscape design and construction, from public parks, commercial and housing developments, streetscapes, to open space, riparian corridor and habitat restoration and trail development. Sarah taught planting and neighborhood design for many years, for UC Berkeley Extension’s Landscape Architecture program.
Cielo Sichi
Cielo Sichi is the owner of Landfour Landscape Architecture. He has been professionally designing and building landscapes with a focus on sustainability since 2003. Mr. Sichi holds a BS in Environmental Horticultural Science from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He is currently the chair of the Horticulture Department at American River College where he teaches landscape and irrigation design and construction courses. He is also on the lead instructor for ReScape California qualification trainings, and serves as a member of their board of directors.
Lori Palmquist, CID, CIC, CLWM, CLIA, QWEL, RQP, WWLP
Lori Palmquist is an irrigation expert who has designed, installed, repaired, maintained, and upgraded hundreds of irrigation systems in her 34-year career as a landscape professional. She has a fiery devotion to water conservation and claims to have irrigation water running through her veins. In the past 15 years, Lori has given over 550 talks, workshops, seminars, and trainings to thousands of landscape professionals and the public. She has an online irrigation school that can be found at loripalmquist.com, where she focuses on educating landscape professionals.
