Free PG&E Webinar: Advanced Framing Techniques for Energy and Resource Efficiency
Event Description

Did you know advanced framing techniques reduce material usage and create additional spacing for insulation in a home's wall? Advanced framing walls use 2x6 inch vertical studs spaced 24 inches apart in comparison to traditional framing walls which use 2x4 inch vertical studs 16 inches apart. More wall insulation and less wood translates to a reduction in a wall's framing factor, which is the percentage of a wall assembly that is comprised of framing members instead of insulation.

Framing factors in homes with traditional framing walls and buildings are most often 25% or greater. Join Steve Easley as he presents examples of best practices from real jobs using advanced framing techniques that achieve framing factors of 12% without compromising the home's integrity.

The objective of this course is that at the conclusion, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the cascading energy impacts that framing has on building performance
  • Point out the common framing mistakes that lead to poor thermal performance
  • Outline two or more best practices reducing framing factors achieving advanced framing
  • Summarize the best practices for insulating and air sealing wall for high performance walls
