Training by Passivehouse Massachusetts, New Building Codes & Passive House: What Municipalities Need to Know
Event Description

Massachusetts has updated it's building codes with a strengthened Stretch Code that goes into effect in 2023 - and introduced a new Specialized Opt-In Code that communities can begin opting into as soon as 2023 as well. These codes will require lower HERS scores and, for some buildings, Passive House certification.

Objectives

  • Learn the basics of Passive House certification and design.
  • Learn what the energy requirements of the new energy code are and how they differ between the Stretch Code and the Specialized Opt-In Code.
  • Learn how HERS scores are calculated, what levels are now required, and how projects can achieve them.
  • Learn about incentives for All-Electric homes and Passive House buildings and how this can offset any increase in building costs for achieving these new requirements.
  • Learn about the new Specialized Opt-In code, what it requires, how and when it can be implemented, and what it means for towns.
