Event Description
This training will teach real estate professionals about the principles and practices that distinguish green buildings from traditional buildings, methods for appraising high-performance homes, and approaches to solve solar-related valuation problems. The secondary mortgage market guidelines require this competency prior to accepting an assignment, so now is the time to learn!
Day 1 Course | Appraising Green Homes: Construction Methods & Trends
Wednesday, November 19th | 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
This course day is designed to provide information on the rapidly expanding field of green building and introduce participants to all phases of green residential construction, from proper siting of a home to finish material selection. The class begins with an overview of the history of green building and then explains its five key elements in detail. This will provide learners with an in-depth understanding of green building in order to equip you to competently analyze these properties in appraisal assignments. Day 1 course concludes with a discussion on green home certification programs, guidelines, and the possible impact on home appraisals.
Day 2 Course | Appraising Green Homes: Valuation Techniques and Advanced Applications
Thursday, November 20th | 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
This course day is intended to provide appraisers with the information and resources needed to make well-supported and accurate valuation decisions for green properties. Day 2 course begins with an overview of the most current data available for the valuation of green homes, then presents the cost approach as it applies to these properties. Participants will then perform an in-depth analysis of the sales comparison approach and valuation techniques that can be applied to green properties.
The valuation techniques discussed on Day 1 and the morning of Day 2 will be directly applied to appraisal case studies during the afternoon of Day 2. These case studies will provide tools that can be integrated into real-world practice. Upon passing an exam, the student will be able to use the designation of Accredited Green Appraiser.
9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Classroom Training (class will begin promptly at 9:00 am)
4 p.m. - 5 p.m. Closed-Book Quiz: Participants must pass the quiz with 70% or higher to earn the designation and 14 Continuing Education Hours approved by the Bureau of Real Estate Appraisers (for course day 1 and 2). The State Board of Equalization is offering 7 hours of training credit for each day completed to certified property tax appraisers working for Bay Area county assessors.
Note - Attendees must be a licensed appraiser in the state of california and residing in one of the nine Bay Area counties.
