Tour at Tampa International Airport
Event Description

Tampa International Airport is going green! This walking tour features the LEED Platinum SkyCenter One office with the airport’s new Sustainability and Resilience Director, Eric Caplan. Built with 100% low-emitting materials, SkyCenter One generates 34% less energy than the industry baseline and saves an estimated 1.1 million gallons of water annually. But the airport's efforts expand beyond the walls of SkyCenter One. Attendees will get a peek behind the scenes to see the Airport’s central utility plant, a solar array on top of their parking garage, and an electric tram system.

The event starts with a panel review of the project's goals, strategies, outcomes, and lessons learned through the development process. Participants will then tour the space and see first-hand how green building strategies were applied.

This tour will:

- Discuss the primary goals and motivators that drove the project team’s strategies and decisions and helped achieve LEED v2009 BD+C: CS certification at the Platinum level, and set a foundation for a LEED v4 ID+C: CI fit out.

- Identify the primary strategies that contributed to the achievement of Energy & Atmosphere goals for optimizing energy performance and describe the impact of materials and resources strategies on supporting local manufacturing.

- Translate how the lessons learned on the project can be applied on other LEED projects.

- Locate specific features of the building that contributed to improved performance and explain how they enhanced occupant wellbeing and operational performance.

Continuing Education:

- Approved for 1.5 GBCI CE Hours (LEED-specific for Green Associate, BD+C, ID+C)

- Submitted AIA continuing education.
