Event Description

Kicking off Global Week, ABoR is hosting a special evening edition of our Speaker Series. Join us for cocktails as we discuss innovative green building programs that are making sustainability the standard around the globe.

Sustainability advocates Craig Foley of Rethink39, Douglas Gilliland of Taurus of Texas, Michael "Miguel" Walker, of AIA Cote, and Ken Flippin of the U.S. Green Building Council will have a panel discussion on the green building companies and programs that are impacting the planning, design, and construction of new environments in the U.S. and internationally.

    • Craig Foley

      Craig Foley is the founder of Sustainable Real Estate Consulting Services, a LEED Green Associate and chief sustainability officer for LAER Realty Partners. Craig’s combination of real estate and energy management skills give him a unique perspective about sustainable energy solutions and subject matter expertise on greening the MLS and high-performance home valuation and marketing. As a real estate broker, he has sold several high-performance projects in and around Greater Boston with Leading Edge Real Estate.

      As a real estate consultant, he has partnered with a broad range of companies including Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories, Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships, Elevate Energy, and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center. Craig was one of five people in the U.S. to receive the EverGreen Award by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) in 2013. He also serves as an advisory board member for the NAR Green Resource Council and is a certified instructor of the NAR Green Designation. His committee work at NAR includes the 2019 Chair of the Sustainability Advisory Group. He also serves on the Energy Advisory Council for Fannie Mae.

      Douglas Gilliland

      Douglas is responsible for deal sourcing, permitting, development, disposition, and financing of high quality residential and commercial communities. Douglas brings over 30 years of development and marketing experience and has been involved in some of the largest and most distinct residential land developments in the Southern United States.

      Miguel R. Walker

      Miquel was born and raised a son of the Texas high plains, where he learned how to mend fences with the best (and worst) of the remaining cowboys. When it came time to matriculate, he found a new home at one of the state's finest research universities, Texas State University, where he studied English, Archaeology, Philosophy, and Art. He's worked in a robotics laboratory, in the tech industry, in the music industry, and he is currently building his career in the building science field. He has experience helping organizations develop multi-market presences, including building international operations. He is the head of business development and creative at a wonderful company called Positive Energy and he is the co-creator/producer of The Building Science Podcast. Miquel is a co-founder of The Humid Climate Conference, a board member of the Austin chapter of Passive House Alliance U.S., and is the chair-elect of the AIA Austin Committee On The Environment, as well as one of the co-founders of The Building Science Philosophical Society. He is an avid meditator, runner, reader, and a proud progressive Texan. He also speaks Spanish.
