Free Webinar: Bridging the Gap - Linking Market Value to the Intrinsic Value of Solar and other Green Improvements, July 22, 12 pm PT
Event Description

Brent Bowen, a Certified Appraiser who specializes in the valuation of solar PV systems for residential properties, will guide the participants through the challenges of linking intrinsic value (the actual cost savings from energy-generating or energy-efficient building components) to market value (the impact that those components actually have on the sales prices of properties). The participants will learn about the valuation hurdles from the appraiser's perspective and will also learn about the critical component of the homeowner, Realtor, or builder in collecting and communicating valuable data during the course of an appraisal assignment.

Learning Lessons -

#1: Understand the concept of intrinsic value and how it differs from market value.
#2: Distinguish the differences in calculating intrinsic value between energy-generating components and energy-efficient components.
#3: Understand how appraisers may bundle energy-efficient characteristics with other value-influencing features.
#4: Distinguish between well-marketed green components and those which are poorly marketed and the impact on the perception of market value.

    • Brent is the President of Texas Valuation Professionals, and has been a real estate professional in north Texas since 1997. He graduated from Baylor University with an enthusiasm for both economics and real estate. Brent has written several articles featured in industry publications and has trained many appraisal professionals throughout his career. His curiosity toward the appraisal problem has led to a systematic rethinking of the appraisal process. This consistent questioning of processes, methods, and theories has led to innovative techniques in market conditions analysis, the reconciliation process, solar contributory value, and a complete rethinking of adjustment support. These techniques get continually tested in the crucible of his appraisal practice in the suburbs of Dallas and then shared with his peers as a CE instructor and course developer. Brent has also authored three appraisal courses: Market Indexing for Appraisers, Advanced Residential Solar Valuation and Creating Formulas That Work. Recently he has filed a patent for his ground-breaking method for developing the sales comparison approach to value which he calls the Holistic Adjustment Technique.
