Free PGE&E Webinar: Window Installation Procedures to Provide Real World Performance and Prevent Water Intrusion, May 16
Event Description

Window installation defects are one of the leading causes of water and moisture-related problems in residential construction. Recent Energy codes and even Passive House require continuous insulation. Passive House also requires extreme levels of air tightness. Windows make up at least 15% of the window to wall area ratio in homes therefore can contribute immensely to total house air leakage. Window installation is critical total building performance, for energy use and water management. Using photos gathered from years of field experience, instructor Steve Easley demonstrates window installation mistakes which create moisture problems and lead to callbacks. Steve will show best practice procedures for correctly installing windows and the latest FMA/AMMA/WDMA guidelines.

The objective of this course is that at the conclusion, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the most common window installation mistakes
  • Reference the ASTM, FMA/AAMA window installation methods
  • Cite at least two or more best practices for air sealing windows
  • Discuss how to properly integrate window flashings with building wraps and exterior insulation
  • Point out the differences in window flashing materials
  • Talk about window performance grade metrics
