Event Description

This is intermediate class for anyone interested in understanding the specific issues associated with PV site analysis and system sizing. It focuses on design, installation and support. The objective of this course is to assist participants in evaluating the technical feasibility of a potential PV project planning by presenting design, implementation and support issues that affect site selection and PV installation, while providing participants with simple tools for preliminary system size estimations. Site analysis topics include estimation of the available solar resource, system orientation, module tilt angles, planning for shade, and evaluating space requirements. We will introduce fundamental tools to participants to complete a solar site analysis using both hardware and software methods including 3D modeling, through hands-on demonstrations, field exercises, and project examples. The topics will include sizing for both photovoltaic and energy storage systems.

The objective of this course is that at the conclusion, participants will be able to:

  • Determine the primary solar site analysis issues
  • Compare typical solar site analysis tools
  • Describe the primary factors affecting potential PV system output
  • Practice the steps for sizing & designing a grid-connected PV & ESS system
  • Discuss the key questions to consider when evaluating the feasibility of a prospective PV project
