Webinar: GreenBuilt Home Series: Deep Energy Retrofits
Event Description

This webinar will explore homes working toward net zero through deep energy retrofits. This second program in the series will feature three unique, deep home energy retrofits all working toward affordable, practical means of achieving near net zero annual energy. Presenters will explore how achieving net zero energy on existing homes is possible across many home types and ages! The homes featured in this session are located in Chicago, Glen Ellyn and Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Homes featured during this session will include:

  • SmartHaus Happy Boolo: This historic 1964 split-level home is anticipated to be the first LEED home in Arlington Heights, IL and one of very few LEED Platinum remodels in all of Chicagoland. The homeowners look forward to the renovated home serving as a gathering place for community and an inspiration for highly functional and sustainable living.
  • Glen Ellyn Deep Energy Retrofit: The homeowner and builder will explain the vision of this home to take an existing 1961 ranch home in a great location, and completely transform it into a home that was beautiful yet practical, at or near net zero energy use yet comfortable year round, and healthy yet reasonably affordable. The house is all electric and uses no gas.
  • North Lawndale Net Zero Home: This 1902 masonry two-flat demonstrates that even old, urban dwellings can be retrofitted to to make our homes healthier and more economic to run, own, and live in. The owners used a system-wide approach to turn this former energy hog into a net zero energy building, targeting LEED for Homes Platinum.
