Cradle to Cradle, Manufacturing and the Recyclability of Plastics
Event Description

This course will begin with a general overview of recycling, zero waste and how plastics fits into this.

We will define: Single Use vs Durable plastics; Cradle to Cradle principles and Zero Waste. There will be a deeper discussion about designing and manufacturing with plastic using cradle to cradle and zero waste principles. A local expert for a construction recycling facility will discuss how plastics are currently being handled during construction projects. She will also discuss the challenges to reclaim plastics at a construction site as well as the sorting of plastics from the other materials being recovered. The discussion will wrap up with some suggestions on how a specifier/end user can ensure they are selecting plastics that have been designed using Cradle to Cradle principles so that they have the opportunity to remain within a closed loop system. We will help the participant to understand what to look for when selecting plastic products for a built environment.
