Event Description

This workshop will provide insight into net-zero energy homes: what they are and how they can be achieved using both commonplace building practices and emerging technologies. Topics will include:

  • What a “net-zero energy” home is
  • Commonly used strategies to achieve net-zero energy status in North Carolina
  • The use of natural gas and batteries as part of a net-zero energy project
  • Distinction between off-grid and grid-tied projects and the up-front costs and planning required for each
  • The impact of the homeowner on the likelihood of actually achieving net-zero energy
  • Successes and lessons learned from real-life projects

This webinar will also discuss how to achieve the greatest energy efficiency with building systems such as insulation, heating, cooling, hot water, and ventilation, as well as the essential ways that solar energy will help you reach net zero.  A local case study will be used to show how all the parts of the process come together for a successful project.
