Green Building Energy Tour at 21 Acres
Event Description

Get a behind the scenes look at the tools and technologies that 21 Acres' LEED Platinum-certified building uses.

Join 21 Acres for a Green Building Energy Tour, held every third Saturday of the month at 11:00 a.m. Get a behind the scenes look at the tools and technologies that 21 Acres' LEED Platinum-certified building uses to ensure operational efficiencies. Understand real connections between clean energy, water, and food, and how they impact our environment, health, and economy. Take home suggestions for simple and important changes you can make to reduce the climate impact of your home or work.

Founded in 2006, 21 Acres is a program of the HumanLinks Foundation. A key purpose is to promote the benefits of local food systems within the context of climate challenges. 21 Acres explores the relationship between our natural and built environments, and the transition from an unsustainable, fossil fuel-based lifestyle to sustainable and regenerative ways of living.

We innovate to solve current problems by infusing traditional concepts with new knowledge, and we value a whole systems approach to food production, small-scale food economies, environmental preservation, and climate resilience. People come to 21 Acres to unite around ideas and practices that will lead to a better future locally, regionally, and globally.

21 Acres was awarded LEED Platinum Certification in 2013 by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in the category of LEED for New Construction v2.2 rating system. The 12,000 square foot building was awarded the highest Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification for its integration of innovative building and on-site systems.

A key goal in conceptualizing 21 Acres was to create both an example and a catalyst for change – a place to entice interested individuals and like-minded organizations to explore and learn about agriculture, food, the environment, and what it takes to live sustainably. Striving for LEED Platinum Certification was a way to prove that green building could be done well on a farm at a time when many design professionals and construction trades had just begun to think about alternative approaches.
