Event Description

Climate change is having devastating effects on our environment and it is clear that business as usual is no longer good enough and that fundamental changes are necessary. The government property profession has the opportunity to make a real difference, not only in decarbonising the government estate, but by making best use of the land we occupy to have a positive impact and setting a leading example for the rest of the built environment across the UK.

With the government’s commitment to achieve net zero carbon by 2050, and the built environment being responsible for 40% of emissions there is a real need to ensure consideration of sustainability and social value in all decisions affecting the government estate. Building the relevant capability across government is vital to ensuring that these decisions are robust, effective and made with due consideration to sustainability concerns.
