Ice Dams & Attic Mold,
Event Description

With Maine’s cold, harsh winters and significant annual snowfall, it is inevitable that some buildings will experience the bane of homeowners and property managers alike: the ice dam. In fact, any building with a pitched roof has the potential for an ice dam problem. It doesn’t take long for ice dams to form, and when they do, the risk of roof leaks and subsequent mold growth is great.

This short-format program will provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of why ice dams form, as well as strategies for proper clean-up, repair, and prevention. Plenty of time will be given for audience questions and discussion. Specific topics to be covered:

Indoor Air Quality Issues: How Ice Dams Impact the Indoor Environment
Ice Dam Science: Why Ice Dams Form
Cleaning Up After the Ice Dam: Mold Issues and Proper Mold Clean Up
Ice Dam Prevention: Effective Strategies for Building Repair and Future Ice Dam Prevention
