Tesla Gigafactory: What it means for solar energy?

Tesla's Gigafactory out in Nevada has been creating a stir in the news recently, and with good reason.

Their goal? Running the battery production facility with zero fossil fuel consumption. In order to accomplish this, they plan to use solar energy - and lots of it. Tesla's proposed rooftop solar array will be 70 MW, making it the largest in the world (~7x larger than the one currently in India at 11.5 MW).

If they are successful, this could be a game changer for other mass-production factories worldwide. Talk of a Gigafactory 2 is already spreading, and countries are trying to win over Tesla for it's home location.

Those experienced and/or interested in solar energy and electric vehicles, what are your thoughts on this news? Is this going to be as positive and big as Tesla hopes? Comment below!
