"Perfect Wall" demonstration
Several years ago, when the term "perfect wall" was mentioned, I thought it meant a "plumb and square" wall. Many of us green builders and architects throw around the term as if everyone understands it. Most builders and architects barely understand it.
While I was at the 2022 International Builders Show this year, the high-performance stage had a sample of some of the projects that we currently use to make the "perfect wall' assembly. Check out the video above, where I explain a few components that comprise the perfect wall. The major difference between the perfect wall and a traditionally built wall is the location of the insulation. The insulation is installed on the exterior of the sheathing, and below the insulation, there is a solid weather-resistant barrier (WRB) that keeps the water out. This continuos insulation ensures less energy loss, thus a more efficient structure regarding heating and cooling.
The video above shows how ROCKWOOL insulation on top of the ZIP WALL system accounts for the majority of the perfect wall. We are using both of these products on the #1920sMakeoverATL learning house.
