Low Profile, All Fiberglass Essential Windows by Marvin (Video)
At the International Builders Show and Kitchen and Bathroom Show, Matt Hoots had the opportunity to talk with Kevin Kline of Marvin Windows about their Essential Collection. Where the Signature line is all wood, and the company’s Elevate collection is a combination of fiberglass and wood, Essential windows are made of the company’s proprietary fiberglass Ultrex material, on both the exterior and interior.
Essential windows are a good fit for clients who don’t have a preference for wood or who may not like a wood look, or who prefer the narrow window profile of these windows. A lower profile offers an opportunity to maximize daylight opening and views, which is beneficial as designers and clients increasingly want to capture natural light. Performance benefits include high durability, low-or-really-no maintenance, a high strength to weight ratio, high energy efficiency, and a low expansion/contraction rate. Marvin offers some color options, but Essential windows are also paintable. At a lower price point than other collections, these windows may be a good choice for energy efficiency upgrades where both savings and energy improvements are a clear goal. The windows will also perform well in areas with particularly extreme or rapidly changeable weather.
Marvin Windows offers more than 150,000 window and door styles, all of which are Energy Star certified. Marvin warranties the exterior and glass of their windows for 20 years, hardware for ten years, and interior construction for five years. The company is known for custom-sizing windows to client specifications.
