Safe, Affordable, Comfortable, GREEN housing for 552 Academy Street Residents in Inwood New York
Once condemned as unsafe, 553 Academy Street in Inwood NY is now a completed successful renovation and a Green Enterprise Community Building.
This story in Multi-Housing News caught my attention because it's a win-win for residents and the area, and the environment: http://www.multihousingnews.com/news/major-celebration-as-residents-return-to-renovated-apartments-in-formerly-hazardous-building/1004118943.html
According to Judy Kends, of Enterprise Community Partners, 552 Academy Street is "a noteworthy model for revitalizing neighborhoods and preserving communities through public-private partnerships, as well as a source of inspiration.”
The list of people and organizations that worked together for this project is noteworthy and includes the building's 41 families, The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), Community League of the Heights (CLOTH), Enterprise Community Partners Inc., Alembic Community Development, Capital One Bank and JP Morgan Chase.
