Norway Plans to Ban All Fossil Fuel Based Vehicle Sales by 2025

Norway plans to ban all fossil fuel based vehicle sales and production by 2025. The country’s four main political parties have agreed to formulate a policy and to work together on this matter. Norway, the world’s leading country in adopting electric vehicles, will also aim to have over 67 percent of its energy come from renewable sources by 2020. If and when a bill gets passed into law, Norway will be the world’s first nation to ever ban new fossil fuel based vehicles. The Netherlands and India are seeking to follow Norway’s lead and are contemplating similar policies. 
 Public incentives are fueling the success of Electric Vehicle (EV) ownership, with these incentives ranging from tax rebates and lower road taxes as well as the privilege of using bus lanes and free public parking. With over one fourth of the country’s recently purchased vehicles being powered by electricity today, Norway already holds the highest percentage of EV market share compared to any other country in the world. 
 The tentative deal to ban fossil fueled vehicles is quite remarkable due to the fact that Norway is one of the world’s biggest oil exporters, making it hard to believe they could make something like possible . 
 Elon Musk, founder of Tesla said he “Just heard that Norway will ban new sales of fuel cars in 2025, What an amazingly awesome country”. 
 Implementing this ban by 2025 is an admirable goal, yet there is still more work to be done before Norway can say goodbye to fossil fuels.
