India’s Renewable Investments Near $20 Billion
India’s renewable energy exceeded that of traditional fossil fuel-based power production for the first time in 2017. India’s renewable investment also reached about $20 billion in renewables, accounting for over a third of investment in the country’s energy sector all together. Coal power plant production has also been decreasing exponentially. In Karnataka, a southern coastal state of India, renewable energy production outstripped coal, 12.3 to 9.8 GW.
Looking into the future, India has an impressive goal by 2022 to reach 175 GW of solar and wind power. If this happens, India will be in third place in the world for the largest installed renewable energy capacity, shortly behind China and the United States . What are other countries doing to increase their renewable energy production? Which country could be the next to reach the largest installed renewable energy capacity?
