Governor Cuomo signs "Under 2 MOU" to help prevent global temperature from increasing by 2 degrees

On October 8th at Columbia University in Albany New York Governor Cuomo joined by Vice President Gore announced the signing of the “Under 2 MOU”. This is an agreement that New York will join 42 other jurisdictions of the world to commit to preventing the average temperature of the globe from rising 2 degrees Celsius by 2100. This will help develop a Broad North American Carbon Market. “Under 2 MOU” will also commit to bringing solar to 150, 000 homes and business in the state of New York. The state of New York has already begun to do its part in reaching this goal. Earlier this year the state of New York committed to increase renewable energy sources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 and 80% by 2050 as part of its State Energy Plan. This is the most aggressive emissions target in the nation. The plan also set a goal to increase electricity from renewable sources to 50% by 2030. New York City has matched that commitment and is the largest city in the world to do so. The city has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 19% since 2005. The state of New York produces more hydroelectricity than any other state east of the Rocky Mountains.
