LED bulbs are the future of lighting. The Department of Energy has brought forth a rule that lead to the phase-out of CFLs. The new rule which has been on the table for over a decade will use the current standard already established by Congress in 2007. However, it holds a second standard for LEDs and CFLs. This would mean that LEDs will be the bulb of choice in the future because they are the only bulbs that can meet the standard. After 2020 all CFL bulbs will be phased out and incandeascent bulbs have to reach a high standard of 45 lumens per watt.
