Daylight Hour, 2021
Event Description

Participate in Daylight Hour, 2021 - June 18.  It's easy! All you need to do is turn off the lights for one hour.

Daylight Hour is an annual social media campaign organized by the Building Energy Exchange to raise awareness about using natural daylight in lieu of electric lighting. Launched in 2014, this simple and engaging campaign asks offices to turn off non-critical lights in day-lit spaces from noon until 1 pm on the Friday nearest the summer solstice. Daylight Hour looks a little bit different this year than it has in the past – participation is free and encouraged, no matter where you are. Whether you are in-office or at home, we can’t wait to see your creativity in showcasing energy efficiency!

Please note: Daylight Hour occurs on the last Friday closest to the summer solstice. For offices that are closed on Friday in recognition of Juneteenth (Saturday, June 19, 2021), posts and participation in Daylight Hour on Thursday, June 17th or Monday, June 21st will also be considered for Daylight Hour awards.

2021 Awards:

Daylight Hour awards are given at the end of every campaign cycle to honor some of our most inspiring participants. Building Energy Exchange will present the following awards for Daylight Hour 2021:

1. First Sign Up
2. Best Video about Importance of Campaign
3. Most Creative Post: in-office and at home
4. Welcome to Daylight Hour: Best New Participant Post
5. Co-workers: Best at-home photo with pets and/or kids
