Executive Director - USGBC Massachusetts Chapter - Boston, MA
The U.S. Green Building Council, Massachusetts Chapter, (the Chapter) seeks an entrepreneurial and passionate executive director to continue our momentum in leading the green building movement in Massachusetts.
Formed in 2009, the Chapter is aligned with the national U.S. Green Building Council and is the go-to resource for individuals, professionals, government entities, and companies interested in creating sustainable buildings and communities. Our mission is to “drive sustainable and regenerative design, construction, and operation of the built environment.”
Our vision is for “a thriving and diverse community, creating a built environment of net positive systems of water and energy, of financial and social equity, and of ecological and human health.” We have prioritized two fundamental programs: net positive communities through municipal planning and net positive buildings, and a net positive workforce through green building education and leadership training, particularly in disadvantaged communities.
The role of executive director is to ensure the overall health, growth, and sustainability of the organization through leadership excellence, effective management, optimized operations, and the successful execution of the organization’s strategic plan. We seek a strong motivational leader and consensus-building visionary committed to sustainability in the built environment with experience in interacting and collaborating with a broad group of stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Fiscal management of the organization, including budgeting and planning for adequate cash flow to meet all operational needs.
-Entrepreneurial leadership, development, and guidance of business units to grow programming, membership, corporate sponsorship and grants.
-Oversight and implementation of all programming and operations to drive impact, including ongoing measurement, evaluation, and adjustments to ensure continuous improvement.
-Responsible for providing information, advice, and counsel to the Board Chair, Members, and Committees in the creation of policies, programs, partnerships and the strategic direction of the organization.
-Executive oversight of both internal and external communications, including effective strategies for the Board, membership, and volunteer communications, as well as impactful external marketing and social media strategies.
-Responsible for supervision of all staff and the provision of a positive work environment.
Ideal candidates for this position will share our commitment to sustainability and green building practices and will bring a variety of experiences and attributes to the Chapter, including:
-Effective leadership skills combined with an entrepreneurial spirit and sound business judgment.
-At least five years of experience in a supervisory capacity at a non-profit organization preferred. Leadership roles in other organizations will be considered.
Fundraising and Development:
-Experience in fundraising on behalf of a non-profit with demonstrated success in soliciting sponsors.
-Knowledge of the principles and techniques of grants administration, including the ability to identify grant opportunities aligned with the Chapter’s mission.
-Ability to interact professionally and effectively with public officials, industry leaders, and trade associations such as USGBC, the BSA, NAIOP, NESEA and others.
-Excellent communication skills including effectively responding to members and stakeholder in both written and oral form.
-The ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, legal documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Other Position Qualifications Include:
-Familiarity with sustainable building certifications such as LEED, Living Building Challenge, Passive House and other programs preferred. LEED Professional Accreditation preferred or ability to achieve LEED AP or LEED Green Associate accreditation within one year.
-Policy and advocacy experience a plus.
